Daughters of the Sea(s) is a two-person exhibition with me and the Latvia-based artist Kato Trofimova, bringing together two distinct artistic practices through stories shaped by the sea.
Inspired by the myths, folktales, and coastal landscapes of Busan, South Korea, my works reinterpret overlooked narratives of women, transformation, resilience, and the relationship between humans and nature. Kato Trofimova's works explore memory, identity, and place through her own visual language, creating a dialogue that bridges different cultures and coastlines.
Rather than presenting the sea as a geographical boundary, Daughters of the Sea(s) considers it a shared space of migration, mythology, and collective memory. Through painting, illustration, and narrative, the exhibition invites viewers to reflect on how stories travel across oceans and continue to shape the ways we understand ourselves and one another.
